As with so many things related to funerals and memorial services, the range of prices for headstones is quite wide. If you want a relatively simple, flat headstone, you may be able to pay less than $1,000 for that piece. For a larger, upright model, the price will be higher, with $2,000 - $3,000 being a common range. Of course, as you add features or choose more costly materials, that price will increase as a result.

What is the Difference Between a Tombstone and a Headstone?

You may often hear the words tombstone and headstone used interchangeably, but they are not quite the same thing. When talking about a modern cemetery, the correct word to use is headstone – this is a stone used to mark the location of a grave. By contrast, a tombstone was traditionally used as a way to close up a tomb. So, rather than serving as a location marker specifically, it was a functional piece of the gravesite.
