Obituary Betty Zorabell Mitchell Stewart Davis, 83, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, Mar 9, 2023, at Rosebud Village Nursing Home in Richmond, Indiana after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born September 27, 1939 to Alberta Todd Mitchell and Luther Knute Mitchell After her father's passing Raymond Stewart married Alberta and would later adopt Betty changing her name to Betty Stewart She graduated from Garfield High School in Terre Haute and would later receive an LP certificate from IvyTech in 1976. Betty did volunteer nursing work with the Charles T. Hyte Community Center clinic. She worked for the Purdue Bxtension office teaching cooking classes. She then worked as the Director of Proiect Head Start in Terre Haute for 18 years and made an impact on mary local families as well as her staff. Upon leaving Head Star, she worked for the call center at Columbia Records and would later work in her son Davids "Stewart Law Office" until her retirement. Betty was a woman of faith and well versed in scripture. She enjoyed attending church and listening to gospel music. She was a strong woman of great character, a caretaker and provider. She raised 8 children on her own and in doing so was highly influenced by her aunt Ruth Edwards and mother figure Lucille Bradshaw. She was a great storyteller with a great sense of humor. She was competitive - a trait that was passed on to her children. Betty enjoyed bowling in her earlier years. She also enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shaliens, displaying them on every window ledfe, door frame and shelfin EVERY room When one got broken, she used to tell us how valuable it was even though we knew it came from Goodwill or a yard sale Betty was skilled in making a meal out of nothing and was famous for her homemade dinner rolls which no has been able to duplicate She loved Jeopardy and rarely missed a question. She los her vision to diabetesin her late 60s. It was afterward that Betty became involved with and received services from the WILL Center in Terre Haute, a non-profit community based, nonresidential organization that is run by and for people with disabilities. In her final weeks, she would reminisce about her younger years and travels with her siblings along with dance clubs she would frequent with them. She said she loved to dance. Betty wasable to see 48 of the 50 US stales, Puerto Rico and Canada. Sheloved and enjoyed her family (both immediate, extended and grafted in) Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were often spoiled by their granny GG. She is survived by her childrer: Michael of Terre Haute (granddaughter Krystal White and great granddaughter Jantlia Brewver), David of Indianapolis and granddaughters Aleris Sitevart Siera Nemynaova Dodd and great grandson Michael David Smith lIl) Mehrin of Arinton. TX and granddaughters Ashlee Stevart, Mikayla (Jose) Fernandez, Morgan Stewart and great Grandson Ezra Santiago Fernandez); Dennis of Terre Haute (and grandchildren Sean Stewart Olie Stewart, Brennon Lane Siewart, Devon Stewart, Cameron Siewart), Nina of Terre Haute (and grandehildren Amber Siewart, Marcus Stewart and great-grandchildren Wesley Edwards, Baeley Edwards, Aaliyah Stewart and Bika Stewart) Leroy (Sherry) of Terre Haute (and grandchildren Quinton Stewart, Cameron Stewart, kaylee Siewart), Timmy of Terre Haute (and grandchildren JI. Siewart, Cassidy Sievart Devon Stewart, Treyvonn Stewart and great Grandchildren Callie Wiliamson, Zorbella Wiliamson, Dream Williamson and Kayden Stewart) and "Tracy (Mark Lautzenheiser) of Richmond, IN (and grandson Johnathan Lautzenheiser). Also surviving are her brother Larry and sister Faye of Michigan, sisters in Christ Patricia Stewart, Geneva Parks, Clara Mitchell; family friend Warren Shafer and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Raymond, Aaron, James, Robert and 5 sisters: Vera, Arlena, Marie, Connie and Shirley.
